Club History

St. Croix Swim Club, nicknamed the Silverrays, was founded in Stillwater in August 2000. SCSC is a year-round competitive swim program. We offer a guided age-group youth program for children age 6 and up, from the beginning swimmer to the most competitive and skilled swimmer. At the 2002 Winter State Meet Silver Rays finished 1st and took 2nd place in the 2002 Summer State meet. In 2003 we finished 1st at the Winter State Meet and 2nd at the 2003 Summer State meet. In 2004 we won both, Winter and Summer State Meets in AA division. More recently, SCSC was the top AA 12-Under team at Winter State 2007, and we finished third in the overall standings in AA after the 12-Under and 13-Over State Meet scores were combined. We had the 10th highest combined score. This means we have been promoted to AAA for 2008. We finished 2nd in AA division at the 2007 summer State meet. We have numerous State Champions and State record holders on our team as well as Junior National and Senior National Qualifiers!

Team Information

As of spring 2004, SCSC offers 4 levels of professional instruction and training. We might be adding/changing groups as the club grows. Each level has specific objectives and goals that follow a logical progression.

Group advancement criteria

Move up will occur with recommendation from your present coach and approval of the next level coach.  The swimmer has to be able to consistently perform the listed training sets, plus demonstrate leadership ability.  If there is a case when a swimmer is not performing well at practice and is unable to keep up with the other swimmers in the group, possible “move down” can occur.

SILVER RAYS to BLUE RAYS

  • Attend at least 3 of 4 practices/week and be able to swim 2800-3200 yards at each workout.

  • 200 free in 4:00 or faster.

  • Must be able to complete the following sets: 6X50 Kick @ 1:40, 6X50 free @ 1:15

  • And two of the following: 6X50 breast @ 1:30, 6X50 back @ 1:20, or 6X50 fly with fins.

  • Must be able to count and compute distances.

  • Must be able to look at the clock and leave five seconds after the person in front of them.

  • Must show good listening skills.

Blue Rays to Juniors

  • 10 x 100 on the 1:45 and making the set by 5 -10 seconds rest.

  • 4 x 200 IM on the 3:30 and making the set with aprox. 10 -15 seconds rest.

  • 10 x 50 kick on 1:10 (no fins).

  • Must be able to maintain 4 workouts / week and go 4000-5000 yards per workout.

Juniors to Seniors

  • 500 free under 6:20.

  • 5x200 free on 2:50.

  • 8x100 IM on 1:45.

  • 6x100 kick on 2:00.

This is a high level training group with both practice and meet requirements for 13 and older swimmers. Senior swimmers should compete in at least one meet a month. Year around training is strongly recommended. All swimmers should try to achieve 90% attendance and participate in the State, Sectional and National meets if they qualify. Age alternatives for move up might be an option for swimmers younger than 13 who meet all other requirements for move up.
